FontAudition WFE FAQ

Questions about FontAudition WFE for Final Cut Pro.

FontAudition WFE is a Final Cut Pro workflow extension, available on the Mac App Store. A separate standalone macOS app is in development. These answers cover the workflow extension.

Before You Buy

Do I need Final Cut Pro to use FontAudition WFE?

Yes. WFE means workflow extension. It opens inside Final Cut Pro and depends on it. Final Cut Pro must be installed on your Mac. There is no standalone application in this product.

Can I use FontAudition WFE without Final Cut Pro?

No. If you do not use Final Cut Pro, this is not the right product for you, and it will not work on its own. The standalone FontAudition for macOS app is being built for work outside Final Cut Pro — it is not released yet.

Why should non-FCP users avoid FontAudition WFE?

Because WFE means workflow extension. It depends on Final Cut Pro. Buying it without Final Cut Pro leaves you with something you cannot open.

Is this the same as the FontAudition macOS app?

No. They are separate products. FontAudition WFE runs inside Final Cut Pro and is on sale now. FontAudition for macOS is a standalone Mac app for graphics and design workflows, and it is still in development. Owning one does not give you the other.

What It Does

What does FontAudition WFE do?

FontAudition WFE lets Final Cut Pro editors audition fonts while working in the Final Cut Pro workflow extension environment.

Who is FontAudition WFE for?

It is for Final Cut Pro editors creating titles, lower thirds, captions, supers, or graphic packages who want font decisions close to the edit.

Can I preview a font with my own text?

Yes. Enter the title, lower third, caption, or super you are designing for and compare fonts against that text, rather than against a generic sample string.

Does FontAudition install fonts for me?

No. FontAudition WFE auditions the fonts already available to your Mac. Installing and managing font files stays with macOS and whatever font manager you use.

The macOS App

Is there a version that works outside Final Cut Pro?

A standalone FontAudition for macOS app is in development for exactly that. It is not released yet. If that is what you need, wait for it — the workflow extension will not do that job.

When is the macOS app coming?

There is no announced date yet. This page and the FontAudition for macOS page will be updated when there is one.

Will buying FontAudition WFE now include the macOS app later?

No. They are separate App Store products. FontAudition WFE is the Final Cut Pro workflow extension and that is what your purchase covers.

Support

What should I include in a FontAudition WFE support request?

Include your macOS version, your Final Cut Pro version, and what you were doing when the problem happened. If the extension will not open, say whether it appears in the Final Cut Pro window menu.

I bought FontAudition WFE and I do not use Final Cut Pro. What should I do?

Contact support and we will help you work out which product you actually want. App Store purchases and refunds are handled by Apple, but we can clarify what fits your workflow before you go to them.
